How to Practice Hygge in the Summer

Hygge is usually associated with fall and winter, but there are also ways to practice hygge in the summer. This is great because we get to experience it in different ways each session. I love that there’s a special flavor to it when it’s warm out. So excited about the summer hygge vibes. I hope this gets you there too.

Four Ways to Practice Hygge in Summer

1. Sunbathe in the grass with friends (try it barefoot)

This is one of my favorite things to do, it feels so good. It’s warm, you feel relaxed, and you’re connecting. It’s the perfect time to let your inner child come out to play and bask in the sun.

2. Camp out in your backyard. Bring some snacks, wine, music and games.

Backyard camping is so fun. I love how cozy you can make it and you still have the safety and comfort of your home.

3. Run outside, come home listen to alternate rock while you take a warm shower

I love the after run shower and how good it feels to relax after stretching my body and pushing myself through a long run. There’s something sensual and almost sedating about taking a shower and listening to alternative rock immediately afterwards. I’m thinking Kings of Leon, their song, The End as the perfect song to play.

4. Enjoy some swimming, then wrap yourself in something warm, finish the day in the sun with a book

Swimming can be enlivening and tiring at the same time, the combination is euphoric. It feels good to move your body through the weight of water, laugh, play with others and hold your breath as you dive under. When it’s over you crave warmth and relaxation. Once out of the water and rinsed off it’s peaceful to just relax, get warm and read a book in the sun. Such a calming feeling that envelops you. If you’ve grown up being in the water during the summer, I think you’ll know what I mean. That feeling is Hygge.
